Betway has agreed a deal to continue as title sponsor of the UK Championship snooker tournament.

The agreement runs for three years and cover the 2018, 2019 and 2020 editions of the event, which will remain as the Betway UK Championship.

Betway began its backing of the tournament in 2015 when it took over the title sponsorship role from rival Dafabet.

The UK Championship is regarded as snooker’s second biggest ranking event, after the World Championship, and forms part of the ‘Triple Crown’.

Anthony Werkman, who became chief executive of Betway in November, said: “Continuing our sponsorship in snooker, and particularly with a top level event like the Betway UK Championship, is really important as we look to build on the strong growth we have achieved in recent years.”

Barry Hearn, chairman of World Snooker, which runs the event, added: “This year we celebrate 40 years of the UK Championship and remember the iconic moments that this marvellous tournament has produced.

“Now the players are writing a new chapter in the history of this event, and the eyes of the world are watching with a global television audience of over 400 million fans.

“The exposure for Betway’s brand both in the UK and overseas is exceptional.”
