FA fines Newcastle over Fun88 logo breach
The English Football Association (FA) has fined Premier League club Newcastle United £7,500 (€8,600/$10,700) for placing Fun88’s logo on youth team players’ shirts.
Last month, the FA opted to charge the club after saying the offence breached its regulations regarding advertising restrictions.
FA rules state that “services and related activities such as alcohol and gambling” cannot be worn by under-18 teams.
In May of last year, Fun88 entered into a three-year deal with Newcastle to serve as the club’s main front-of-shirt sponsor.
The agreement covered both the first team and youth squads from the 2017-18 season through to 2019-20.
However, Newcastle in January removed the Fun88 logo from under-18 players’ shirts after being criticised for showcasing gambling to younger fans.
Newcastle was named as one of several Premier League teams using youth team players to promote gambling on sections of its website aimed at younger fans.
