Australia’s National Rugby League (NRL) has announced that it will not allow betting logos to appear on players’ shirts in its new women’s competition.

According to 7 News, the ban will also stretch to signage inside stadia for the NRL Women’s Premiership, which will take place for the first time this year.

The NRL, with the Australian Rugby League Commission (ARLC), confirmed the decision in a policy document that was distributed to all 16 clubs in the league last month.

“The ARLC have chosen to exclude any above the line (visible) gambling sponsorship across the NRL Women’s Premiership,” the document said.

“The ARLC is committed to reducing the amount of in playing venues and on team apparel game-wide.”
