English League Two football club Newport County has become the third team to commit to Paddy Power’s new ‘Save Our Shirt’ sponsorship campaign.

English League Two football club Newport County has become the third team to commit to Flutter Entertainment brand Paddy Power’s new ‘Save Our Shirt’ sponsorship campaign.

Paddy Power will sponsor Newport for the 2019-20 season, but will not feature its branding on the front of players’ shirts.

The Save Our Shirt campaign, launched through a partnership with Huddersfield Town FC, sees Paddy Power call for betting operators to stop striking football shirt sponsorship deals.

“This is a significant deal for the club, not just from a financial perspective but also being part of the high-profile Save Our Shirt campaign,” Newport County’s operational chairman, Gavin Foxall, said. “As a supporter-owned club we felt the fit was right, as it’s all about giving the shirt back to our loyal supporters.”

Paddy Power launched the new campaign last week after receiving widespread criticism for a commercial deal with English Championship team Huddersfield Town.

Fans and the English Football Association raised concerns about the size of the Paddy Power logo on the front of Huddersfield’s shirts, but the bookmaker later revealed it was a stunt to launch the campaign.

Yesterday (July 22), it was confirmed that Scottish Premier League club Motherwell has also joined the campaign by agreeing to be sponsored by Paddy Power but not featuring its branding on players’ shirts.
