Frits Huffnagel to step down as VAN Kansspelen chair

In March, it was agreed with Huffnagel that his term would be extended for one year, and would be evaluated in October on the basis of developments regarding the Dutch remote gambling act (KoA), and in the context of the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.

During the evaluation, Huffnagel indicated his wish to step down from his position on 1 November, to make more time and space for his other activities, which the board agreed to.

He commented: “It is with great pleasure and dedication that I have brought the interests of the members of VAN Kansspelen to the attention of government in The Hague in recent years. Under my chairmanship, a lot of hard work has been done on the image of the industry and on reaching the right discussion partners.”

“This has led to the necessary results. And that has proved necessary, especially in this year when corona hit the industry so hard. The corona crisis is not over yet, but now that the Remote Gambling Act (KoA) will be introduced on 1 March 2021, it feels to me that my most important task is over after more than seven years.”

He described new challenges coming his way, namely the communications agency, Castro Communicatie, which he started with his partner some two years ago.

Huffnagel explained that due to the pandemic, several entrepreneurs and organisations have asked for assistance, which is why he felt the time was right to shift his focus.

Vice chair Aad Kobus has agreed to fulfil Huffnagel’s role on an interim basis, until a new chairman is appointed.
