Jumbo Interactive brings in Atkinson to drive UK expansion

| By Robert Fletcher
Lottery retailer Jumbo Interactive has appointed Nigel Atkinson as UK general manager as part of its strategy to expand its presence in the UK charity lotteries market.

In his new role, Atkinson will be responsible for overseeing Jumbo’s UK operations and also assume management of the retailer’s Gatherwell UK subsidiary that it acquired in November 2019.

Atkinson joins the business after a spell as business development director a Wunderman Thompson Commerce, prior to which he was head of customer engagement at Salmon.

Atkinson spent most of his career with Neoworks, working in a number of roles such as head customer engagement, e-commerce solution architect and business development director.

“Now more than ever charities are looking for ways to build back and generate new fundraising income,” Atkinson said. “Society lotteries offer an important source of income, and are a low risk, sustainable fundraising solution.

“We are excited to further develop our presence in the UK and make our software and services available to support more charities back into good health – whatever their size.”

Jumbo chief commercial officer Richard Bateson added: “Nigel’s digital knowledge and expertise coupled with our ambitions in the UK market, will help us support charities and not for profits with their fundraising and incentive giving programmes at this very important time.”

Jumbo secured a remote gambling software operating licence from the British Gambling Commission in November last year.

In August, Jumbo also reported a year-on-year increase in revenue and net profit in what it said was a record financial year for the business. Revenue for the 12 months to 30 June was up 17.1% from $71.2m in the previous financial year.
