Genius Sports nets Polish basketball data deal
The 10-year agreement, which comes into effect from the 2021-22 season, will see Genius provide the PLK and PZK with its data collection, management and distribution solutions.
FIBA LiveStats, the data service of the International Basketball Federation (FIBA), will capture play-by-play statistics including shot, four and turnover locations at eight competitions and more than 1,800 games per season.
Both the PLK and PZK will be able to implement Genius live streaming solutions to deliver live broadcasts, data-driven graphics and highlights to fans around the world.
“Signing a long-term contract with such an important partner as Genius Sports will allow us to take another big step forward for the development of Polish basketball,” PZK president Radosław Piesiewicz said.
Genius head of commercial partnerships in the EMEA, Jonny Katanchian, added: “Long-term, trusted partnerships like this are pivotal to driving the development and global expansion of basketball leagues and federations.
“FIBA LiveStats will continue to power a world-class data ecosystem while our streaming solutions and global distribution networks will transform how Polish basketball engages new audiences around the world.”
Genius has secured a number of data partnerships in recent weeks, including new deals with the Argentine Football Association and an agreement with Liga MX, covering Mexico’s top two flights of men’s football, its domestic cup and the women’s division.
Last month, Genius also announced plans to publicly list on the New York Stock Exchange, as part of its reverse merger arrangement with special purpose acquisition company dMY Technology Group.
The new publicly traded business is expected to have an enterprise value of $1.5bn (£1.12bn/€1.26bn).
