Genius Sports is to provide the British Horseracing Authority (BHA) with an automated ‘Price Monitoring System’ to help identify and investigate irregular betting patterns.

Delivered through Genius Sports’ proprietary Sport Integrity Monitor (SportIM) platform, the new system will monitor live betting prices, industry averages and odds fluctuations from all major bookmakers.

The system will also support processes involved when sending data and alerts in real-time via Genius Sports’ API to on-course stewards.

The agreement covers all fixtures across the British racing calendar and enables the BHA to monitor any fluctuations at levels that are deemed unusual, as well as access historical price information to further assist investigations and analysis.

“The ability to monitor all modern betting platforms and markets in real-time has been an important part of our toolkit for some time,” BHA spokesperson Robin Mounsey said.

“It forms an essential piece of the complex integrity jigsaw and British Racing has led the way in its use for safeguarding betting integrity for some time.

“In order to ensure that the BHA remains at the forefront of integrity monitoring it is appropriate that we ensure the systems which we use are intelligent, agile and efficient.”

Steven Burton, director of integrity, governance and sports partnerships at Genius Sports, added: “British horseracing is amongst the most popular in the world and this success is built upon the principles of fairness and integrity.

“We are looking forward to providing our specialist solutions and playing our part in ensuring that the integrity of British horseracing is upheld.”
