Virginia sports betting revenue hits four-month high in May

Adjusted gross revenue from sports betting in Virginia reached a four-month high of $67.9 million in May as the state reported year-on-year growth in its regulated market.
Monthly revenue surpassed the previous year by 26.0% and 21.0% more than April this year.
Of the May total, $67.4 million came from online betting and $467,259 from retail sportsbooks.
The Virginia Lottery also published details on player spending on sports betting. Handle for May hit $595.0 million, some 17.7% more than last year but 2.4% down from the $609.7 million bet in April.
Online spending amounted to $589.9 million, while the remaining $5.2 million was wagered at retail sportsbooks.
This left the state with a hold of 11.41% for the month of May.
Virginia players win $522.6 million from sports betting
The Virginia Lottery does not post data on the performance of individual operators. Some 14 mobile operators and three casinos offered sports betting during the month.
However, it did publish information on player winnings. In total, consumers won $522.6 million from sport betting in May.
As for tax, the state generated $10.2 million. Of this, $9.9 million went to the General Fund Allocation and $253,998 the Problem Gambling Treatment and Support Fund Allocation.
