Betway has appointed Anthony Werkman, formerly its director of marketing and operations, as chief executive.

Werkman replaces Richard Akitt, who will now take on the role of chairman of the company.

Akitt spent five years as chief executive of Betway, during which the firm said he oversaw a “dramatic period of growth”.

“I am honoured to be taking on the group CEO role of Betway at a hugely exciting time for the company,” Werkman said.

“Richard and I have worked closely together over the last few years and I look forward to continuing to work with him in his new role as chairman.

“We have experienced an incredible period of growth over the past few years and are determined to make sure that trajectory continues.”

Speaking about his time as chief executive and his new role, Akitt added: “It’s been a privilege to be CEO of Betway for the last five years, but the time is right for me to hand over the reins to Anthony.

“I look forward to continuing our excellent working relationship and being closely involved in the strategic direction of the business going forward.”
