NetEnt is to enhance it selection of slot games by launching a new virtual reality (VR) title and signing a deal to develop games based on the ‘Planet of the Apes’ film franchise.

The firm’s first VR slot will be based on popular title ‘Gonzo’s Quest’, with plans in place to utilise WebVR technology to create the game and add it to its current multi-channel offering.

The VR game will be distributed through the existing NetEnt Casino Module.

Per Eriksson, chief executive of NetEnt, said: “We firmly believe that VR has a given place in the future of online gaming, based on our research and the trends that we monitor.

“We remain focused on delivering the ultimate entertainment experience by taking this first step towards developing our first real-money VR slot.”

Meanwhile, NetEnt has secured an agreement with 20th Century Fox Consumer Products to exclusively license the ‘Planet of the Apes’ film franchise for online casino gaming.

The deal covers the entire Planet of the Apes brand, with the first slot scheduled for release in the second half of the year.

Simon Hammon, chief product officer of NetEnt, said: “Planet of the Apes is one of the largest film franchises in the world never to have been applied to gaming before.

“With such a rich history, the brand resonates with everyone that has grown up with the films, and it will fit perfectly with NetEnt’s wide and divers player base.”
