Paddy Power has paid out on Hillary Clinton to become the next President of the US, despite the election not taking place until next month.

Punters who backed the Democratic nominee can now collect their winnings, with the bookmaker expected to pay out over $1 million (€910,400).

Clinton faces off against Donald Trump in the election on November 8, with a number of polls putting her ahead.

Republican nominee Trump was as short as 13/8 in May, but after recent negative coverage of his campaign, he is now priced at 9/2.

“Recent betting trends have shown one-way traffic for Hillary and punters seemed to have called it 100 per cent correct,” a Paddy Power spokesperson said.

“Despite Trump’s Make America Great Again message appealing to many disillusioned voters, it looks as though America are going to put a woman in the White House.”

Interestingly, William Hill yesterday (Tuesday) said that while more money had been wagered on Clinton, more individual bets had been placed on Trump.
