Best bookmaker for Super Bowl betting
Leading tipster site Betting Expert compared bookmakers’ offerings for last weekend’s Super Bowl game, exploring their markets and odds to determine the best in the UK.
One of the US’s biggest sporting events, the popularity of the Super Bowl has now spread to the UK. In turn, betting on the occasion has become big business, and most bookmakers now offer some form of Super Bowl betting.
For our best bookmaker for Super Bowl betting comparison, we analysed what was available in the UK market. Specifically, we compared the Super Bowl 2020 odds for the most popular markets, namely match odds, handicap odds, total odds and first half winner odds.
To find our best bookmaker for Super Bowl betting, our research covered all of the top UK online bookmakers. The bookmakers included in this comparison were:
As well as analysing the odds available, we also looked at the range of markets available; most bookmakers now offer a variety of Super Bowl markets.
In addition to those categories mentioned earlier, we also looked at the odds for the most valuable player (MVP) award, anytime touchdown scorer and first touchdown scorer.
It’s important to note that all of our research and data gathering was conducted between January 22 and 23. Research conducted during another period could provide different results.
Overall best Super Bowl 2020 odds
Our research found that the following bookmakers offered the best all-round betting experience.
1. 888sport
=2. LeoVegas
=2. Unibet
You might be surprised at the lack of so-called big names in our top bookmaker list. Regular readers of our best bookmaker comparison reviews won’t be. We’ve found that those bookmakers that don’t receive as much attention as the bigger names in the industry often offer much more attractive betting options.
What makes these bookmakers, in particular, stand out? Let’s analyse where these operators succeeded, starting with our number one, 888sport.
888sport excelled in almost every category studied. Considering the number of markets available, 888sport was in the top four, offering more than 250 markets on the game.
This operator came out on top in our research into the most valuable player odds and offered among the most competitive odds for the first touchdown scorer market. 888sport also fared well in terms of the margin in the first half winner odds category.
In joint second place, we had LeoVegas and Unibet. Unibet is firmly established as one of the most popular bookmakers in the UK. LeoVegas, on the other hand, is more famous for what it offers in its online casino. It’s therefore interesting to see the operator challenging for the top spot, but it’s listed for good reason.
LeoVegas offered the same margin percentage as 888sport for the first half winner market. It was also among the most competitive for MVP and first touchdown scorer odds.
Unibet excelled in similar areas, with excellent value found in its odds on the MVP and first touchdown scorer markets.
Best Super Bowl match odds
One of the most common ways to bet on the Super Bowl is the match winner market.
The following bookmakers offered the best odds and lowest commission for the match odds market.
1. Sportingbet
2. Marathonbet
3. Betsafe
Again, you might be surprised by the names in our top three list. We’ve found, however, that in many of our bookmaker comparisons these operators perform well.
Sportingbet came out on top with a commission margin of 3.17%. Marathonbet was second with 3.33% and Betsafe third with 3.80%.
Best Super Bowl handicap odds
Betting on the handicap market, also known as the spread, is another popular form of Super Bowl betting. We found the lowest commission at Marathonbet, which took 2.57%. In second place was Netbet, with commission of 3.51%, and 10bet was third with 4.01%.
Best Super Bowl total odds
The total points over/under market often provides more value than the standard match odds market and for this reason, has become increasingly popular with Super Bowl bettors.
Here Marathonbet took top spot once again, offering a commission of 2.57%. This was much less than second-placed Betsafe, which had a commission of 4.14%. In third place was 10bet, with a commission of 4.18%.
Best Super Bowl first half winner odds
Similar to football, rugby and a number of other sports, betting on the half market is common in Super Bowl betting, as well as American football betting in general.
There were a number of bookmakers that performed well in this section. We’ve listed the top five bookmakers in this category below, along with the commission charged.
1. 10bet – 4.24%
2. William Hill – 4.24%
3. 888sport – 4.52%
4. LeoVegas – 4.52%
5. Unibet – 4.52%
Other markets analysed
We also looked at the odds for most valuable player, first touchdown scorer and anytime touchdown scorer markets. Our top three in each category were:
MVP odds
1. 888sport
2. LeoVegas
3. Unibet
First touchdown scorer
1. William Hill
2. 888sport
3. LeoVegas
Anytime touchdown scorer
1. Coral
2. Ladbrokes
3. Sky Bet
The number of markets available is also important to many punters. There were a handful of bookmakers which offered more than 250 markets on the event. These were:
Betfair
888sport
bet365
William Hill
Conclusion
While our research led us to put arguably lesser-known operators into the top three, and indeed Mr Green was in fourth spot, two perhaps more famous names in the UK bookmaker scene were next on the list.
We were impressed by what was available at Betfred (number five) and Betfair (number six). Betfair, in particular, offered a fantastic range of markets, along with Super Bowl odds that offered great value.
We were surprised to find that many bookmakers didn’t offer the Super Bowl odds we believe to be among the most popular. For example, first half winner odds were not available at BetAtHome, BetVictor or Marathonbet.
We also noticed a lack of MVP odds at a number of bookmakers. Given the increasing popularity of American sports, we expect to see bookmakers improve their offerings further for Super Bowl 2021.
