Australian Open cuts William Hill betting ads
The Tennis Australia (TA) national governing body has announced it is to drop courtside William Hill advertisements from next month’s Australian Open.
According to ABC, TA president Steve Healy said the decision was based on a backlash against the ads, amidst the match-fixing and integrity issues currently facing the global sport.
Healy said William Hill supported the move and that the bookmaker is actively supporting the sport’s anti-corruption campaign
“We need to put it in perspective; the arrangements that were struck with William Hill before this issue had such a high profile and so we've worked with our partners to address that,” Healy said.
Healy did not confirm whether the decision would lead to a loss of sponsorship revenue.
