AFC renews integrity partnership with Sportradar
The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has opted to extend and expand its integrity partnership with sports data company Sportradar.
Under the deal, Sportradar’s Intelligence and Investigation Services will engage with the AFC throughout the 2018 and 2019 football seasons.
Sportradar and the AFC will focus on individuals and organisations behind fraud on the pitch in Asia.
AFC president Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa said: “In the AFC Vision and Mission, the fight against match-fixing is imperative and remains ongoing.
“We, at the AFC, take this threat extremely seriously and our actions during recent years demonstrate our zero-tolerance stance, but we also appreciate that times are changing, and technology is needed to combat this ever-growing threat.
“Sportradar’s technology and proven expertise will help us to target those corrupting our game.”
The AFC has been working with Sportradar for a number of years now as part of a three-way deal with Fifa, football’s global governing body.
Under the existing agreement, Sportradar monitors all matches in the top two leagues and cups in AFC Member Associations, as well as in AFC competitions, for unusual betting patterns.
Carsten Koerl, chief executive of Sportradar, added: “Our Fraud Detection System has long been proven as a potent weapon against match manipulation, and now our Intelligence and Investigation products will give the AFC an added layer of protection.”
