Sanne Muijser steps down from Van Kansspelen

Muijser will move to his new role at the Royal Booksellers Union on 1 October.

Earlier this year, Van Kansspelen named Henry Meijdam as its new chairman, replacing former interim chairman Aad Kobus.

Muijser said he was thankful for the time he’d spent as general secretary, referring to the implementation of the Remote Gambling Act (KOA) as a highlight.

“The past ten years have flown by,” said Muijser. “As a trade organisation, we supervised the introduction of the Remote Gambling Act, which also had a great influence on the slot machine sector.

“And the corona period has shown how resilient the sector is. I look back on a pleasant and dynamic period and would like to thank everyone within and outside the association for their cooperation.”

The period where KOA was in the process of being enacted proved strained, with multiple delays. It was first scheduled to enter into law on 1 July 2020, but was postponed until 1 October 2021.

Contributions on “complex issues”

Meijdam thanked Muijser for his time with Van Kansspelen, stating he’d made a “valuable contribution” over the years.

“On behalf of the board, I would like to thank Sanne for his work as general secretary in recent years,” said Meijdam. “He was a point of contact for our association for both members and external relations.

“Sanne has made a valuable contribution, not least on complex issues such as the introduction of the Remote Gambling Act, the corona crisis and the development of the gambling advertising code.”

The Netherlands’ government implemented a ban on most forms of gambling advertising in July. This ban prohibits advertising on television, radio and in print, as well as advertising in public spaces such as billboard and bus shelters.
