As the December launch of Missouri’s legal sports betting market moves closer, BetMGM secured market access on Tuesday in the Show Me State.

BetMGM, one of the nation’s largest sportsbook operators, gained access through Century Casinos subsidiary Century Casino & Hotel Cape Girardeau. Under the terms of the agreement, BetMGM will be responsible for online sports betting operations under Century’s licence in Missouri. The agreement includes a percentage of net gaming revenue payable to Century. In addition, Century will receive a minimum payout along with retail sportsbook options.

Missouri voters approved a ballot measure last November to make it the most recent state to approve sports betting. The referendum passed narrowly by a margin of several hundred votes. State legislative sessions across the US are concluding the first half of 2025 without a single new jurisdiction legalising sports betting this year.

Tie-in with the Chiefs

The Missouri Gaming Commission announced this month that the state will go live on 1 December. BetMGM previously signed a partnership with the NFL’s Kansas City Chiefs in 2021. Following the launch, the Chiefs will face the Houston Texans on 7 December in the team’s first home game with in-game betting possible inside Arrowhead Stadium.

Missouri online sportsbook operators can gain market access either through a retail casino or a professional sports team. The MGC will award two untethered licences by 15 August. All other licensees must apply or partner with a team or a casino by 12 September, according to the commission.

Formerly Isle Casino Cape Girardeau, the Century Casino property opened in 2012. The agreement between it and BetMGM is contingent on the companies obtaining the necessary Missouri licences and regulatory approvals.

“We are excited to partner with BetMGM, a leading online sports betting and gaming entertainment company with a dynamic and innovative brand,” said Century Casinos co-CEOs Erwin Haitzmann and Peter Hoetzinger in a statement.
