North Carolina sports betting handle reached $6.64 billion in FY25

Players in North Carolina spent more than $6.6 billion betting on sports in the state’s 2025 fiscal year, while gross revenue in the 12-month period fell just short of $650 million.
North Carolina opened its legal online betting market in mid-March 2024, with FY25 being the market’s first full financial year.
During the 12 months to the end of June 2025, handle among the state’s sportsbook operators totalled $6.64 billion. This is according to official data from the North Carolina State Lottery Commission.
Some $222.5 million was reported in promotional wagering revenue while $38.8 million in bets were voided. Players received back $5.95 billion, leaving $647.7 million in revenue for FY25.
As such, this resulted in a hold of 9.75%. North Carolina collected $116.6 million in tax from sports betting during the financial year.
The commission does not publish information on the performance of individual operators.
Handle dips to 10-month low in June
As for the final month of FY25, handle in June was at its lowest for 10 months. The $433.2 million spent in June was 8.8% higher than last year but 23% behind this May.
Cancelled wagers hit $2.9 million and players received back a total of $372.2 million. That left gross wagering revenue of $58.1 million for the month, up 44.2% year-on-year but 10.9% short of May.
In terms of hold for the month, this stood at 13.41%, while tax income totalled $11.5 million.
FanDuel, DraftKings, BetMGM and Fanatics are among prominent operators active in North Carolina.
