888 Holdings has agreed a deal for its 888poker brand to join forces with One Drop on an initiative to support this year’s World Water Day.

To mark today’s (Thursday) World Water Day, 888poker will be staging a special online tournament to help generate funds for One Drop’s various projects.

The event will take place at 8pm GMT tonight with a buy-in of $11.11 and a total prize pool of $5,000 (€4,000).

Founded by Cirque du Soleil creator and poker enthusiast Guy Laliberté, One Drop is an international non-profit organisation that has raised over $20m for safe water access initiatives worldwide.

“This will be One Drop’s first online poker tournament ever and we are confident that we have found another great ally in 888poker,” One Drop’s senior director of special initiatives, Alexandre Meunier, said.

“We are excited with the idea of being able to reach out to their extensive community of online players to raise awareness and funds for critical water issues.”

Guy Cohen, senior vice-president head of B2C at 888 Holdings, added: “Our new collaboration with One Drop is a great milestone for us here at 888poker.

“Supporting causes that improve the world we live in is an important part of our activities.”
