Nevada sets new sportsbook record in September
The Nevada Gaming Control Board has revealed that casino sportsbooks in the US state were able to set a new betting handle record in September, but just fell short of an all-time revenue high.
Total betting volume in the month amounted to $558.4m (€479.2m), marginally higher than the previous record of $557.4m that was set back in November 2015.
Nevada casino sportsbooks were also set to post a new monthly revenue record, but with punters cashing out winning bets on the recent boxing match between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor, this pushed revenue back to $44.4m for the month.
Overall gaming revenue for September came in at just under $980m, which is 3.25% more than in the same month last year, but down on the $989.5m posted in August of this year.
Slots revenue climbed 1.6% year-on-year to $595.5m, while revenue from games and tables also increased by 5.9% to $384.3m in the month.
The figures come as Pennsylvania prepares to join Nevada, as well as New Jersey and Delaware in the online gambling market in the US.
This week, Pennsylvania become the fourth US state to officially legalise online gaming after Governor Tom Wolf signed an expansive gambling package into law.
Pennsylvania’s existing commercial casinos will now be able to apply for a new online gaming licence and begin offering services to punters via desktop, mobile and tablet devices.
