Delaware’s legal sports betting market has reported a 91.1% month-on-month decline in revenue for January, with less player activity resulting in a decline in amounts wagered.
Total revenue for month ended January 27 fell to $1.4m (£1.1m/$1.3m). Delaware Park generated the bulk of revenue for the period, accounting for $975,731 of the total, down 33.7% from December.
Dover Downs generated revenue of $259,058, down 37.0% from the prior month, and Harrington Raceway provided the remaining $203,568.
January saw a significant decline in player activity, with the total number of bets placed across the three licensed sports betting venues falling 35.4% to 227,328, while amounts wagered fell 25.7% at $11.9m.
With players winning $10.3m in total, this suggests a hold of 12.0% for the month, down from December’s hold of 13.3%. The trio of licensees also paid out $205,480 in vendor fees in January.
Last week Delaware reported a 57.9% year-on-year increase in igaming revenue for January, to $279,541. Year-on-year comparisons of the state's sports betting performance will not be possible until June 5, which will mark the first anniversary of the vertical's launch.
