Iowa betting revenue rockets in November

The Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission (IRGC) has reported a 125.0% year-on-year rise in sports betting revenue in November, after amounts wagered grew 47.1% for the month.

Revenue for the month amounted to $8.1m, up from $3.6m in the same month last year, but down 11.0% from $9.1m in October this year.

Online was again the main source of income for operators in Iowa, with revenue reaching $5.3m, up from $1.5m in November 2019, but again lower than October 2020’s total, of $6.4m.

Retail revenue climbed 38.1% year-on-year to $2.9m, while this figure was also 7.4% higher than $2.7m posted in October 2020.

In terms of spending, the state’s handle hiked 47.1% from $59.3m in November last year to $87.2m. This total was also 6.5% higher than the $81.9m spent in the previous month.

Online spending stood at $62.4m, up 85.2% on last year, while the state’s retail handle fell slightly from $25.7m to $24.8m.
