AFL’s Tigers shun betting deals with responsible gambling partnership

Australian Football League (AFL) club Richmond has entered into a partnership with the Victorian Responsible Gaming Foundation, in a deal that will preclude the Australian rules club from having sports betting sponsors.

The agreement will run for three seasons, from 2016 to 2018.

Richmond, also known as the Tigers, will sign the Responsible Gambling Charter and work with the regional organisation to help protect young people from the risks of gambling.

The Tigers become the seventh AFL team to sign the Charter and step away from sports betting sponsorship.

“To join six other AFL Clubs in signing the Responsible Gambling Charter is a strong stance by the AFL community, and we look forward to supporting the Foundation’s initiatives over the next three years at least,” Richmond chief executive Brendon Gale said.

Serge Sardo, chief executive of the Victorian Responsible Gaming Foundation, added: “Richmond now joins the majority of Victorian AFL clubs who will spread the word about responsible gambling to their fans.”
