English Premier League football club Newcastle United has opted to remove the logo of main sponsor Fun88 from shirts worn by youth team players.

In May of last year, Fun88 signed a three-season deal to serve as the main shirt sponsor of the club for the 2017-18, 2018-19 and 2019-20 seasons.

Although the initial agreement included branding placement on first team and youth team shirts, the club has now taken the decision to drop the logo from its youth squads.

The move comes after Newcastle was identified by the Sunday Times newspaper as one of a number of Premier League clubs that were using youth players to help promote gambling or betting services on sections of websites aimed at younger fans.

According to the Evening Chronicle newspaper, all pictures of youth team players wearing the older shirts with the logo on have been removed from the Newcastle website.

In addition, plans are in place to re-take all players’ official photographs wearing the new, unbranded shirts.
