Campbell to step down as chairman of SkyCity

Campbell was appointed chairman in January 2018 and has served as a director on the SkyCity board since June 2017.

He will exit the company in early 2022 in order to focus on other work commitments.

SkyCity said it would not begin the processes of appointing a new chairman but did not put a timescale on when a replacement would be announced.

Confirmation of Campbell’s departure comes after SkyCity in August reported a 17.6% drop in revenue to NZ$959.2m (£488.3m/€575.4m/US$665.6m) for its 2020-21 financial year, ended 30 June, as SkyCity continued to deal with Covid-19 restrictions in its native New Zealand.

Profit before income tax was NZ$193.5m, compared to a loss of NZ$28.5m in 2020. After factoring in income tax, net profits for the company were NZ156.1m – down 33.7% from last year. 

Higher profit after tax in 2020 was due to insurance and similar payouts from the 2019 fire.
