New York online sports betting revenue hits record $248.9 million in May

Gross gaming revenue from online sports betting in New York reached a record $248.9 million during May, while the state’s handle exceeded $2 billion for the third consecutive month.

GGR in May narrowly beat the existing record of $248 million, set in January this year, by 0.4%. It was also 22.1% higher year-on-year and 29.2% ahead of April, data from the New York State Gaming Commission showed.

As for player spending, monthly handle in May hit $2.21 billion. This beat the previous year by 11.6% and was 2.3% more than April. However, the total fell 11.2% short of the record $2.49 billion wagered in January 2025.

In terms of hold, the monthly figure for New York stood at 11.23%.

FanDuel keeps hold of top spot in New York

Looking to operators, Flutter’s FanDuel remained the online sports betting market leader in May. Taking $108.8 million in GGR off an $803.1 million handle resulted in a 13.54% hold.

DraftKings, which temporarily took the lead in March before slipping back to second in April, followed. The operator posted $84.2 million from $785 million for a hold of 10.73%.

Fanatics completed the top three, reporting GGR of $18 million off a $190.6 million handle for a 9.44% hold.

Elsewhere, GGR at BetMGM hit $14.7 million and handle $161.2 million, leaving a 9.12% monthly hold. Just behind was Caesars with $13.8 million off $152.3 million and a 9.06% hold.

Rush Street Interactive was next, reporting $4.1 million off $50.1 million for an 8.51% hold in May. ESPN Bet was the only other operator to see GGR exceed $1 million, posting $4 million from $48.2 million, leaving an 8.3% hold.

Resorts World Bet took $769,446 from $9.1 million for an 8.41% hold. Finally, Bally Bet rounded off the market with $631,019 off $12 million, leaving a hold of 5.25%.
