SugarHouse begins PA online sportsbook test

SugarHouse Casino has moved a step closer to becoming the first gambling operator to roll out an online and mobile sportsbook service in the regulated state of Pennsylvania after beginning a series of test launches. Should this soft launch be completed without any issues, it could officially launch its offering later this week.

As instructed by the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB), SugarHouse took its first interactive wagers yesterday (May 28) afternoon during an eight-hour testing period that ran from 4pm to midnight.

Further tests are due to take place today (May 29) from 2pm to midnight, then tomorrrow from 12pm to midnight. A full launch of the online and mobile service offering is expected to take place later this week.

Developed in partnership with sports betting technology provider Kambi, the new offering will run alongside a land-based sportsbook that launched at the venue in December of last year, which is also powered by the supplier.

Consumers are required to first register in-person at the SugarHouse Casino in order to place interactive bets.

The launch marks the latest step in the ongoing partnership between Rush Street and Kambi, which began in May last year and also covers sports betting activities in New Jersey, as well as potentially Illinois and New York should the states opt to legalise sports wagering.

SugarHouse is widely regarded as one of the leading operators in Pennsylvania since the state launched its regulated sports betting market.

In April, the venue generated revenue of $781,163 (£617,606/€700,183), which, despite being down 36.9% on the previous month, still ranks SugarHouse as the third most successful operator in Pennsylvania in April.

Greenwood Gaming and Entertainment’s Parx Casino sportsbook, also powered by Kambi, was the market leader last month with revenue of $907,298. Rivers Casino, the sister property of SugarHouse that also runs a Kambi sportsbook, raked second with revenue of $871,753 and a market-high handle of $8.2m.

Reports in Pennsylvania suggest that Rivers Casino will join SugarHouse Casino in launching an interactive sports betting service in the coming days. The PGCB was unable to confirm this, but said that it expected additional licensees to begin online roll-outs over the coming weeks.
